Designing for the Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k

We’re honored to have worked with Sports Backers as the Official Branding Agency of the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K to create the medals and t-shirt for this year’s race. Read on to learn about our design process and how these pieces came to be.

Finding Inspiration

So many ideas came to mind for the design of the medal and t-shirt, but we needed to narrow them down. To do this, we created two different mood boards: one themed around celebration and the race’s 25th anniversary and the other inspired by architecture and scenes from the race.

With two strong directions in mind, we focused on concepts for the design of the medal. We considered everything from angles to textures to colors and asked ourselves what would appeal to race participants.

We presented these options to Sports Backers and with a little bit of tweaking, we landed on our final design. We decided to go with the “Jubilee” concept that showcased all the iconic elements that make the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K special — row homes on Monument Avenue, live music, porch parties, running, and so much more. We think the medal and t-shirt truly embody the energy of the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K and the Richmond community and are excited to see participants wearing them with pride.
